Overview
Precision-machined two-part electronics enclosure in Acetal (Delrin) with tight-tolerance card guide slots, threaded inserts, and a machined EMI gasket groove, for a prototype industrial controller.
The Challenge
The enclosure required card guide slots at 0.8mm width × 1.2mm depth, toleranced to ±0.05mm for a reliable card seating. The gasket groove geometry required a custom-ground tooling radius that no standard endmill could produce.
The Outcome
Machined with custom-ground tooling. Card slot tolerances measured at ±0.03mm — better than specified. The enclosure prototypes are currently in environmental testing. The client has indicated production injection moulding tooling will be commissioned if testing passes.
