S(T)and Shell
A 3D printed scallop shell that fills with sand and anchors your favourite reads in place.
Every good bookend earns its keep, and this one does it with a bit of beach in the mix. Modelled as a single scallop shell, the fan-like ribs radiate out from a tapered base exactly the way they do on the real thing, giving it a sculptural presence that still reads as pure function on a crowded shelf.
The shell is hollow rather than solid, which keeps the print light and quick, but that hollow is the clever part. Fill it through the small hole in the smooth back with sand, pebbles, rice or any weighted material you have on hand, then seal it with the included cover. The flat base slides underneath your last book, so the stack's own weight presses down and holds the shell perfectly upright, no glue, no clamps, just leverage doing the work.
Printed in PLA+ for crisp, clean ribs and a smooth, minimalist finish, it holds its shape and its ground equally well. Pick a colour that fits your shelf, from soft neutrals to a coastal sky blue, and it will look at home whether it is propping up paperbacks or standing alone as a small piece of desk sculpture.
Printed to order in Australia and ready within one to two days, so your reading pile gets its anchor without the wait.
