Reversed Lampshade

Some lampshades are just cylinders with holes punched in the side. This one is a genuine feat of overhang printing: a continuous run of zigzag ridges wraps the barrel shape from top to bottom, each chevron folding back on itself in a way no injection mould or lathe could ever produce in one piece. It is the third design in our Dynamic Twist collection, built specifically to show off what a 3D printer can do that traditional manufacturing cannot. Switch the bulb on and the shade does the rest of the work. Light pushes through the thin printed walls and pools inside every angled facet, turning a plain overhead bulb into a honeycomb of warm glow along the walls and ceiling. Printed in ABS for the extra heat tolerance a shade sitting this close to a bulb deserves, it holds its crisp edges through long evenings of use. It drops straight onto a standard E27 lampholder (40mm), and if your fitting is different we can supply an adapter plate or tweak the design to suit. Each shade is printed to order in Australia and typically ready in 1 to 2 days, finished raw and matte so every facet edge shows without any post-processing. Hang it solo over a reading nook or run a few along a kitchen island for a properly striking light fitting. Pick the warm glow-through of Natural or White, the honeyed tone of Matte Honey, or go bold with Tangerine Orange for a shade that is as much a sculpture switched off as it is a light switched on.
