Brutalist Sphere
A barrel shaped shell of raised tiles, 3D printed in PLA+ to cast bold shadows.
Brutalist architecture never apologises for its shape, and neither does this lamp shade. The Brutalist Sphere is a barrel shaped shell wrapped edge to edge in a grid of raised square tiles, the kind of repeating concrete pattern you would expect on a 1970s tower block, not a light fitting.
It is 3D printed in PLA+, which holds every one of those tile edges crisp and square instead of letting them soften or warp, and gives the surface a smooth, slightly glossy finish that catches light beautifully. Slip a warm bulb inside and the raised grid throws a lattice of shadow and glow across the ceiling and walls, exactly the kind of intriguing lighting effect the original brutalist buildings never quite pulled off.
Sit it over a bedside lamp, a pendant fitting or a simple LED and let it do double duty: functional shade by night, sculptural object by day. It suits a concrete loft, a minimalist study or any room that wants one confident, architectural statement piece rather than a shelf full of trinkets.
Printed to order in Australia, ready in a day or two, and available in concrete inspired greys plus classic black and white if you want the shadow pattern to read as pure graphic contrast.
