3D Printing in Medical Applications
Our mission is to deliver the highest level of care and support to patients by offering customised 3D-printed devices tailored to each individual's unique needs. We use advanced technology to create personalised medical devices that are not only highly effective but also comfortable and easy to use.
MediCAD Has Joined Global3D
MediCAD's patient-specific 3D printing service now operates as part of Global3D, Perth's advanced manufacturing bureau. The same custom orthotic and prosthetic devices are designed and printed in-house alongside our FDM, SLA, MJF and SLS printing, 3D scanning and CAD services, so orthotists and prosthetists get one accountable team for every custom device. Orders, files and enquiries that used to go through the MediCAD website now come straight to Global3D.
Patient-Specific Solutions
Discover our fast-expanding range of custom devices, each one designed from the patient's own scan.
Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO)
Custom 3D-printed ankle foot orthoses that stabilise the ankle and improve gait for patients with muscular weakness, foot drop or neuromuscular conditions. Designed in CAD from the patient's scan and printed for a lightweight, durable and comfortable fit.
Prosthetic Check Sockets
Temporary diagnostic sockets used during prosthetic fitting to test shape, size and comfort before the definitive socket is made. A digital model of the residual limb produces a socket with a precise fit, and modifications are quick because they happen in the file.
Spinal Jackets
Spinal orthoses that support the spine and limit movement after injury or surgery, or manage conditions such as scoliosis. 3D printing gives a precise, lightweight and breathable brace that is easier to wear for long periods.
How to Place Your Order
Placing an order is easy. Contact us to discuss the patient's needs, send us the scan file, and we will 3D print the device and ship it to you.
1. 3D Scan the Anatomy
Non-invasively scan the anatomical region of interest with your clinic's 3D scanner.
2. Share the Digital File
Send us the scan or design file with the patient's requirements, size range, colour and finish.
3. Receive the Device
We print, finish and inspect the device, then ship it to your clinic, typically within 7 working days.
Custom AFO Pricing and Sizing
Every AFO is custom-made from your design files and the patient's needs. Because larger devices take more material and labour, pricing is standardised by size range.
| Size | Foot length | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Small (S) | Up to 241 mm | $310 |
| Medium (M) | 241 to 280 mm | $380 |
| Large (L) | 280 to 320 mm | $460 |
| Extra Large (XL) | 321 to 380 mm | $690 |
| XXL | 381 to 450 mm | $890 |
Colours: PaX Natural White (default), Black, Red, Pink, Orange, Blue and Yellow. Surface finish: none, bead blasting or vapour fused.
Lower limb check sockets are priced from $500 to $800 by size, and spinal jackets are quoted per patient. Shipping is available Australia-wide.
Why Choose MediCAD at Global3D
We specialise in the 3D manufacturing of patient-specific solutions. By combining medical imaging, 3D scanning and 3D printing, we create devices tailored to each patient's anatomy, which means improved comfort and faster recovery.
High Expertise
We stay up to date with the latest technologies and techniques to deliver the best possible devices to practitioners and their patients.
Fast Turnaround
Time matters in healthcare. We work efficiently so devices are delivered promptly, typically within 7 working days, without sacrificing quality.
Quality Assurance
We hold our products and processes to the highest standards and monitor every device so it exceeds industry expectations.
Cost-Effective
Our devices are designed to minimise waste and reduce the need for expensive and time-consuming adjustments.
Who We Work With
Orthotists and prosthetists usually order on behalf of their patients, but we also support patients, clinics and medical innovators directly.
Orthotists & Prosthetists
Order patient-specific devices from your own scans and designs, with technical support from our team throughout the ordering and production process.
Patients & Families
Talk to your orthotist or prosthetist about a custom 3D-printed device, or put them in touch with us to discuss special requirements.
Medical Start-ups & Researchers
We collaborate with medical start-ups and research teams on the 3D printing of prototypes, minimum viable products and other special projects.
Benefits of 3D-Printed Patient-Specific Devices
Off-the-shelf devices are made to fit a wide range of patients, so they rarely fit any one patient perfectly. Patient-specific devices are built around the individual, which leads to better outcomes and higher satisfaction.
Precision Fit
Designed from the patient's own scan, so the device matches their anatomy rather than an average.
Lightweight & Comfortable
Thin, strong structures with ventilation and padding where it is needed, easier to wear all day.
Reduced Lead Times
Digital design and in-house printing replace moulds and casts, so devices arrive in days, not weeks.
Easy Adjustments
Changes are made in the digital model and reprinted, ideal when a residual limb or spinal alignment changes over time.
Medical-Grade Materials
Thermoplastics, silicone and carbon fibre composites, chosen for the support, flexibility and skin contact each patient needs.
Lower Cost
Less material waste and fewer expensive refits make custom devices more accessible for patients.
