OzFDM PA12 Nylon is a high-performance engineering filament for functional and industrial parts that need to keep working under stress. Compared with traditional nylons such as PA6 or PA66, PA12 absorbs far less moisture from the air, which helps it hold its dimensions and print more consistently over the long term, rather than degrading in performance the longer a spool sits open on the shelf.
It is a strong, tough material with genuine impact resistance and chemical resistance, making it well suited to parts that live a hard life: functional prototypes that need to survive real-world handling, mechanical components under repeated load, tooling and jigs used day after day on the production line, brackets that carry weight, and end-use parts that go straight into service rather than staying on a shelf as a display piece. It is a common choice wherever a design has previously relied on machined or injection-moulded nylon components and a printed equivalent needs to hold up to the same duty cycle.
Expect smooth extrusion and strong layer adhesion when it is printed with an appropriate setup. Because nylons in general are moisture-sensitive, keeping the spool dry between prints and drying it before use if it has been exposed to humid air will noticeably improve surface finish and mechanical performance, so it is worth budgeting for that extra step rather than printing straight off an open spool. A slower print speed and a stable enclosure temperature also help minimise warping on larger nylon parts, since dimensional accuracy is usually the whole point of reaching for this material in the first place.
- Excellent toughness and impact resistance
- Low moisture absorption versus traditional nylons
- Strong dimensional stability and chemical resistance
- Ideal for functional prototypes, mechanical components, tooling, brackets and end-use parts
- Available in black and white
