OzFDM PPA-CF is a premium engineering filament: a carbon-fibre reinforced Polyphthalamide, one of the toughest nylons available for FDM printing, built from 85% nylon and 15% carbon fibre. That blend delivers excellent heat resistance up to 220°C, along with outstanding toughness and vibration resistance that ordinary nylons simply can't match.

Because it holds its shape and strength under both mechanical and thermal load, PPA-CF is the filament to reach for on serious functional parts. Think automotive components that see under-bonnet heat, drone frames and motor mounts that need to shrug off constant vibration, and jigs, fixtures and structural brackets on the workshop or factory floor that have to keep their tolerances print after print.

Printing carbon-fibre nylon well comes down to managing heat and moisture. Use a hardened nozzle, since the carbon fibre content is abrasive and will chew through brass in short order, and keep the filament dry with a hot, stable hot end throughout the print - PPA is moisture-sensitive and will bubble and lose strength if it has picked up ambient humidity. Once printed, annealing the part for 3 hours between 80°C and 100°C relieves internal stress and pushes the mechanical properties and heat resistance closer to what the material is really capable of, so don't skip this step on parts that need to perform.

  • Recommended nozzle: 260°C - 290°C
  • Recommended bed: 70°C - 100°C
  • 85% nylon / 15% carbon fibre; heat resistant to 220°C
  • Anneal for 3 hours between 80°C and 100°C for the best mechanical performance
