OzFDM PLA-CF reinforces our PLA with 10% short-strand carbon fibre, adding real rigidity and a premium matte texture that hides layer lines. The fibres improve stiffness and dimensional stability, so parts hold their shape under load better than standard PLA, without asking you to move to a fully-fledged engineering material.
It is a great step up for functional prototypes, drone parts, jigs, brackets and tooling where you want stiffness without moving to a high-temperature engineering material like a CF-nylon or PC-CF - useful when the part doesn't see much heat but does need to resist flex under load. The matte, almost graphite-like surface finish is also popular purely for its looks on display pieces and props where a fibre-textured aesthetic is the goal.
A hardened nozzle is recommended as carbon fibre is abrasive and will wear through a standard brass nozzle faster than plain PLA would. Because it still prints at PLA-like temperatures, it's an easy first step into fibre-filled materials for anyone who hasn't printed with carbon fibre before, with none of the enclosure or annealing requirements that come with the higher-temperature carbon-fibre filaments in our range.
- Recommended nozzle: 200°C - 230°C (210°C ideal)
- Recommended bed: 30°C - 60°C (50°C ideal)
- 10% carbon-fibre reinforced with a matte finish
