Finishing is much easier when a part is designed for it. Thinking about how a part will be sanded, painted or assembled before it is printed saves time later and produces a better result.
Small choices, big payoff
Generous flat or gently curved surfaces are easier to sand than fiddly recesses. Hiding seams and support contact points on less visible faces keeps the showpiece surfaces clean. Allowing a little extra material where heavy sanding is expected avoids thinning the part too far.
Where parts assemble, planning clearances for paint thickness prevents tight fits becoming impossible after finishing.
